What to Wear to a Videoconference

How you choose to dress is a very important consideration in a videoconference. You should dress as you would for a face to face meeting. Extremely bright colors and highly reflective articles of clothing should be avoided, as they are exaggerated through the camera. Before you enter the videoconference session, do a quick personal grooming check. If you are wearing a collared shirt make sure the collar is flat and pressed. If you are going to be using the document camera, examine your hands beforehand to ensure that they are neatly manicured and well kept. Make sure your shirt buttons and any other articles such as zippers are done up. There are other certain things to be avoided in particular situations, and some things to be avoided all together.

What NOT to wear.

Stripes.

Stripes are very hard on the eyes when in front of a camera. Solid colors or nice prints are much easier to look at from the other end.

Same color or tone as background.

If you are standing in front of a dark background, you should be wearing lighter clothing. The same applies to the opposite situation. Wear a darker outfit when in front of a light background. This makes it much easier to be seen.
