Distance Learning Programs

The Royal Tyrrell Museum is excited to be expanding into a new type of programming that will reach students throughout Alberta and beyond.  With videoconferencing equipment and the SuperNet connection, we can deliver programs right into your classroom!  For the 2006 – 2007 school year, we will have three new videoconferencing programs hosted from the ATCO Tyrrell Learning Centre at the Royal Tyrrell Museum.  To register for either of the two following programs, please contact Janette Hubka (toll-free in Alberta) at 310-0000, then 403-823-7707.  Outside Alberta, call 1-888-440-4240.  You may also reach her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Up Close and Palaeo

Grades 4 - 12

Discover the science of palaeontology by interacting with a Museum scientist and educator in this 45-minute videoconference program.  Students will submit questions to the educator prior to the videoconference event, and our staff will prepare the session using animations, video clips, images and fossils (via a document camera) to enhance the delivery of this curriculum-fit program.

Group size: maximum 35 students

Cost: $200/program

Time: Wednesdays at 11:00 AM (MST)

Rockin' Alberta Resources

In this 45-minute videoconference program, students will explore the natural heritage of Alberta?s badlands through geography, geology and palaeontology. Through interactive components; games, images and animation, they will learn about the different rock types, discover how the badlands formed, take a look at some real fossils and the life of a palaeontologist.

Dinosaurs in the Movies

Grades 3 – 12

How has the perception of dinosaurs changed over time?  In this 45 – minute videoconferencing presentation,
a science educator will guide students through a series of film clips, from the most primitive animations to modern digital techniques. Discover how the portrayal of dinosaurs in movies, and our scientific understanding of them have evolved together.

Group size: maximum 35 students
