Pre-Videoconference Checklist for Participants
Attending a videoconference is very similar to attending any meeting. There are some things that a participant or attendee of a videoconference should remember before going into a videoconference.
  • Dress appropriately. Dress as you would for any meeting. Even if the camera isn't always on you, the expectation is that it will be. Do not wear clothing with busy patterns (such as thin repeating lines) or with intense white areas as they will cause video display problems for the viewers.

  • Be prepared to stay for the duration of the meeting. As with any meeting, you should plan on staying for the entire meeting. Unlike a bad movie, you can't just get up and walk out whenever you feel like it.
  • Turn off cellular phones and wireless devices. If your phone doesn't have a silent ringer or vibrate, be sure to shut off your phone. Microphones can pick up cell phone rings quite easiliy, and can be quite distracting during a videoconference.
  • Have any items you need ready to go. If you use a laptop, make sure that the battery is fully charged, or plugged in somewhere out of other peoples' way. If this means that you need to sit in a particular spot, arrive to the meeting early to set up. Having a pad of paper and a pen ready is often handy, so that you can be prepared for any notes that you may wish to take.
  • Have questions prepared. If you plan on asking questions or making specific comments, be sure to have them ready before you arrive.
  • Be prepared for the camera. Many times, a person can see themselves in a video monitor when the camera is on them. Don't let this scare you.
